1. When was the band created and which is the current line-up?

SILENT FALL was created in 2005, under the name of WINTERLAND. Last year, and for some legal reasons, we have been forced to change our name. That's at the same moment that the last member of the current line-up joined the band. So SILENT FALL are: Olivier Caron (Guitars), Guillaume Tertis (Keyboards), Pierre Cabannes (Guitars), Sylvain Rousselle (Bass Guitars), Fabio Carnielli (Drums) and I, Adrien Eyraud (singer).
2. Which are your main influences? How did you come up with the band’s name?
Our influences are … varied. We've started the band as we were some big fans of bands like SONATA ARCTICA, STRATOVARIUS, EDGUY... Nowadays, we try to diversify our music by putting some musical schemes that are not linked to a traditional melodic power metal, like you can see on tracks like “Who is the fool”, “World of Secrets” or “Play with Fire”. In fact, “Otherwise” is a blend made of 5 years of work, so the influences have changed or have been… completed along that period of time.
Concerning the band's name, as I told before, we changed it around one year ago. In fact, a German band already had released two albums under the name of WINTERLAND. We looked for a name that was keeping a part of our original influences, but less kitsch, and more adapted to the music that we wanted to play. Moreover, we wanted to let the possibility to everyone to get their own opinion about the name. For example, this name makes me think to the moment of the dead, when a body is falling on the floor in a deep silence. Some others linked the name to the autumn or the decadence of a man...
3. Were any of you involved in other bands? Give us some info about these bands including their musical style.
Olivier is actually part of an other band which released two albums worlwide, WILDPATH. It's a kind of symphonic metal with some ambiances remembering the soundtracks of Danny Elfman. Sylvain is part of rock band called CHASING GHOSTS and Fabio is also the drummer of two others French melodic metal band, KRYSAOR and KRYSTAL DUST.
4. Tell us something about your previous band WINTERLAND.
In fact, SILENT FALL is … WINTERLAND V.2 :D Same music, same spirit, same way of thinking... The only difference is the experience that brought us some new ideas and some new goals.
5. Are you happy with your record company Pitch Black Records?
I hope that Phivos (Manager) is not gonna read that interview :P To be serious, we are definitely happy. The main quality of this label is the proximity. Even if we are living at “a few miles away” from Cyprus, I join them almost every day by phone or by mail. Everything is done quickly and properly, in a friendly atmosphere, and I must tell that it is pleasure to work like that.
6. How would you describe your musical style?
I would just say “melodic metal”. We are using some death voices, some symphonic orchestrations, some ethnic sounds... Fanzines are fan of classifying the bands, but I think that the most important for us is to play our music and to enjoy doing it.
7. Tell us some things about your live shows. Would like to play live in Greece some day?
We've just finished a little tour in France, that did not exactly happened as we expected (some stages tiner that expected, some gigs cancelled...). But it finished amazingly, with a concert in the Esat of France with Patrick Rondat and WILDPATH. 600 metalheads in front of us, a wonderful stage, some fucking good technical conditions... A pleasure for every musician ^^
And of course, we would like to come! I think that it could be possible if the album was sold out quickly. So you all know what you have to do to see us live in Greece!!! :D
8. Is it easy for your technical material to be played live?
At the moment, we've decided to play our songs without using tapes or computers. Of course we have to adapt ourselves and to change a few parts, but I think that live music becomes more punchy and catchy without using too much of pre-recorded strings or orchestrations...
9. Do you have any new material composed? When do you plan to have your next release?
I've just started to compose some new songs. I don't know if they'll be part of our next album, but who knows? For the next release, we'll wait first, to see the reactions of the audience, and to analyse what can be done to make a better job the next time.
10. Can you name as some good new bands from France? Give us some basic info about these bands including their musical style.
They are so many bands in France who should be more known, but the media world is more than hard with metal in France. I could speak about bands like WILDPATH, ADAGIO, FAIRYLAND, HEAVENLY or NIGHTMARE, but also some bands like DAGOBA or ULTRA VOMIT.
11. How did the heavy metal fans and the heavy metal reviewers accept your debut album until now?
Not too bad. The reviews give an average of 7/10, which is quite a good grade for a first album. But for me, reviews are made of advice and opinions, but you'll never find the perfect truth inside. Everyone has his own way of feeling and living music, so the best way is yet to listen to it.
12. Thank you! Leave a comment to our readers…
Thanks to all of you for your support, wherever you are, and, in the name of the whole band, I hope that we'll be able to put the fire on some Greek stages very soon!!!
